Common sense tells you that load boards are for finding loads, and they are. But there’s so much more. Every posted load has a phone number. Every number calls someone with connections to freight. Those connections, or relationships, could make or break your future.
The Possibilities Load Boards Offer
Along with that next back haul, the right load board gives you all the information you need to grow your business. Rate, lane and credit information is key.
The Best Tri-Haul
Tri-hauls will bring you more money than just going out and back. Or, at least that’s what everyone keeps telling us. Check what the lanes pay and do your math. If you’ve got a good paying head-haul, it could make more sense to just take the load going back. You won’t know until you run the numbers.
This could be an article of it’s own. Those shippers are free game for you to make direct contact and direct load bookings. Pay attention to the ones you’d like to haul for regularly. Find out who their transportation manager is and get in touch. You’re probably not going to book a load for next week, but you’ll know who to talk to.
Be looking for loads that ask more of the driver than just hitting the dock and waiting for a green light. Some loads require more skill and finesse. Big companies are shying away from many driver assist loads, or any load that requires the driver to do more than open the doors.
Look for loads that require trust between the driver, the customer and the shipper. If a relationship helps, you want to be their go-to guy for that load.
Use That Load Board To Build Those Relationships
It won’t happen overnight, but the load board is your key to building trusted relationships with brokers and your future direct customers. It won’t happen overnight. It will take time and effort, but it will happen. Make the calls, check the rates and lanes and deal with creditworthy brokers who pay their bills on time. It’s worth the extra effort.Share This:
