What you don’t want for Christmas is any of that impulse buy, center of the aisle display stuff. You know what I’m talking about. That money clip, key chain and nail clipper combo. Or how about the latest travel mug with USB port and a place for tea bags? And there’s always the old standby, a Christmas tie.
In this episode we will spend some time talking about a few of the usual gifts that will go unused. We’ll also cover a few unusual gifts that could be cool.
What You Don’t Want For Christmas
The all in one package car care kit. You’ll probably end up with a few of these anyway, but here’s a few you will just have to look excited about. Most of these kits come with 2 or 3 things you’ll use. They also come with stuff that will probably never get used. It’s kind of like the daily special at the truck stop counter. Mix a couple of fresh things in with yesterday’s leftovers and someone will buy it.
The car trunk emergency kit is another one that shows up often in those center aisles. Much like the multi-tools we talked about last week, these kits tend to never provide the quality of items you can buy individually. Seriously, zoom in on this stuff. I think half the 66 piece count is band-aids and zip ties. Oh, and the single triangle? The wind will probably take it down seconds after you set it up.
The nose hair trimmer. Have you ever really used one of these? If you remove all the hair from your nose, be prepared for a sneezing frenzy that will last for as long as it takes to grow that hair back.
As for the accompanying manicure set, manicures are for ladies. Men only need one pair of clippers, and we keep it in the tackle box so we know where it is when we need to cut fishing line.
A Few Favorites
The USB single beer cooler. Now, that’s practical. A tall bottle or a couple of cans can remain chilled just about anywhere. It’s the gift that keeps on giving all year long. Hog it for your self. Nothing says “leave me alone, I’m working on something” like going to the cooler that holds one beer, then drinking it in front of them.
Anything from Snap-On. Especially something that really is every day carry. Who doesn’t want to show off the top of the line, even if you’ve got a garage full of Husky, Craftsman or some other less than Snap-On brand tools.
